Delsea Energy to Develop Renewable Energy Park
in Pennsville Township

(PENNSVILLE) – Pennsville Township has announced that Delsea Energy has been selected to redevelop the Township's closed landfill and surrounding vacant properties at the southern edge of the Township into a landmark renewable energy project. The project will be one of the largest clean energy projects in New Jersey to date and one of the few projects in the country producing energy from wind, solar and waste methane gas sources on the same site.

The designation of Delsea Energy followed the Township's competitive bidding process. Under Delsea Energy's preliminary proposal, idle and blighted properties designated by the Township will be transformed into a renewable energy park incorporating seven wind turbines, a solar energy farm, and conversion of waste methane from a former landfill to produce electricity. At full build-out, the project is expected to produce enough electricity to power over 5,000 homes, potentially allowing Pennsville to become the first New Jersey municipality with a net-zero carbon footprint.

In addition to providing the Township with reduced electricity rates for the Township facilities, Delsea Energy's project will include the redevelopment of a former landfill into a public education center dedicated to teaching the community about renewable energy. The center will include a classroom that will support up to 60 students and public tours.

Under the proposal, Delsea Energy will pay the Township rent in addition to providing the municipality with electricity for Township facilities at rates well below what the Township currently pays.

"Pennsville's property taxpayers can look forward to recurring revenues and savings for the town as soon as the project is built," Abene said.

Delsea Energy is a New Jersey-based renewable energy company that owns, develops, and operates wind and other renewable energy facilities. The New Jersey company is currently developing projects in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Virginia. In developing projects, Delsea is supported by special counsel Bradley M. Campbell, a former Commissioner of the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection and a former regional administrator of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency who has helped develop many of the largest renewable energy projects in the region.
